Introduction of Chinese Ink Painting

Traditional Chinese ink paintings are usually associated with scenic landscapes such as mountains, hills, rivers, bamboo forest, pine trees or flower. They are different from modern paintings due to the techniques employed, skills required and materials used. A single painting can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks to create. Because the artists used traditional bamboo brushes and rice paper, there are no first drafts or sketches to trace – just their imagination.

Compared the art of Chinese ink painting in Malaysia, the local artists were not only on par with their counterparts in China, but had also developed their unique style of expression inspired by multi-racial tropical country which full of uniqueness of the motherland’s diversity and heritage. The artists also explored a mixture of contemporary techniques, such as colour splashes, and overlaying colours over ink. As a result, the paintings portray a very different angles and perspectives from the traditional Chinese ink painting.
